Somatic Therapy & Mentoring

Approach

I use a strength based approach, focussing on how we can build the bodies capacity for ease, pleasure, joy, creativity and aliveness. In somatic therapy we are discovering a somatic sense of self, by learning to understand and regulate the nervous system and increase our capacity to live a more textured emotional life. We do this through talk therapy, practical body-based tools and resources, creative practice, and expanding our resilience by understanding why we have certain stress response patterns such as fight, flight, freeze and fawn. From this process of understanding, we can learn how to repattern survival responses and work towards feeling more safety, agency and belonging in our bodies and lives.

Training

I have trained in dance, yoga, meditation and somatic movement for trauma with Jane Clapp, and have been facilitating embodiment spaces for the past 10 years. In 2020 I joined a non-profit organisation called Collective Being as a facilitator, and for the past four years I have been delivering trauma informed somatic movement classes, wellbeing workshops and trauma informed trainings to communities who have experienced PTSD as well as psychologists and other allied health professionals. I have worked with communities who have diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, as well as young people and people living with chronic illness and fatigue. Lat year I completed a three year advanced somatic therapy training with Peter Levin’s Institute of Somatic Experiencing. Alongside working with the body, I have my own artistic practice and have worked in the creative industries for the last decade. My passion lies in where these two worlds meet and the therapeutic potential of that meeting place.
